The problem for anyone who challenges Porter is that pretty much everyone is incompetent and scandalous compared to her. She is a law professor who was taught by Elizabeth Warren at Harvard. She literally wrote the book on modern consumer law.
Porter was first elected to Congress in 2018. She is the Deputy Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. She is now among the first progressive representatives to challenge an incumbent Democratic senator for their seat. It is a trend that is bound to continue as the young representatives with a few terms of experience start trying to oust establishment Democrats in senate primaries. After all, challenging Democratic incumbents is what many of them did when they ran for the House.
When she is elected, her thinking about social rights will be combined with that of Bernie Sanders, and her regulatory and consumer protection expertise will be on par with that of Elizabeth Warren. She will have an instant impact on both the Senate and the direction of the Democratic Party.
If you can't tell, I adore Katie Porter for her wisdom and character, and I also adore her for her drive to tear down icons and expose them for the frauds that they really are. She is not only progressive, but she is also a fellow iconoclast!
